Need of the Initiative:

With many families suffering due to the devastating surge of Covid19, children are bearing a deep impact. Many have lost their parents and are extremely vulnerable. Numbers of Children aged 0-9 years testing positive in past few months and only few hospitals in Nepal have facilities with critical care of Child. Children are living in fear and distress. As many parents have lost their job it has directly affected children’s well-being. Also, they are in high risk after the member in a family gets infected as they won’t be getting proper health care. It is very crucial for us to think about these children NOW and provide essential care and protection for them.

We are more concerned to child safety and protection NOW, it will give them hope and support for the future they deserve. Further, it is the right of every child to survive, thrive and be protected from any possible harm or abuse.

Purpose of the Initiative:

To support relief items, life-saving medical support, psycho-social rehabilitation and other essential supports to the affected children and their families from marginalized community.

Initiative Location:

SATHI initiative will reach to children and their families from marginalized community in CHITWAN.

Target Group:

Children with disabilities, Orphans from geographically marginalized area of Chitwan, and Children and their families with poverty.

Initiative Timeline:

June and July 2021. The initiative can be extended to reach more beneficiaries if further need is identified.

Proposed Fund: $9000

The proposed budget of $9000 is to be spent mainly on the emergency relief materials like food and support on medical treatment of targeted group considering the child health safety.

Initiative Implementation:

The SATHI initiative is divided as SATHI_Basket and COVID Care to address the essential need of the targeted group in immediate response to minimize the risk of COVID-19. It includes:

  1. SATHI_BASKET

Food: Rice, Dal, Salt, Sugar, Oil, Fresh Green Vegetables, Potato and Soyabean

Care Kit: Vitamins & Supplements, relevant medicines, masks, soap, and sanitary pads.

  1. COVID Care: Emergency Support for Medical Treatment, Thermometer, Pulse Oximeter.

Conclusion:

Until now, the infection rate among children has been low but the risk of a third Covid-19 wave has raised fear among people as it is likely to impact children more. Also, with extended lockdown many parents have lost their job and it has affected the wellbeing of Children. Better Chitwan, since long has been working on education and empowerment of children from marginalized community of Chitwan and now have realized the need of urgent action on Child safety and protection.
